Help with paint colors?

We are remodeling a house and i know i want to use neutral tones, like creams and beige's. We are going to paint the old cabinets and i was going to do a off white with more of a beige undertone, with a darker beige wall.. Then we are using cream and taupe tiles for the counters(back splash), and a medium oak laminates on the floors. I just wanted to know if it is all to matchie, matchie.. i cant afford granite counters, but i dont want it to look to bland.. I do however want to stay pretty nuetral. If anyone has any ideas on if i should paint my walls darker, lighter. Counters darker, lighter. Walls darker, lighter.. Also it is a pretty little space, so i definately want to make it appear bigger. Thanks
