Need a guys perspective on a weird and difficult situation?

So this is a very involved story so I will do my best to keep it brief. There's a guy that I've known for about 4 years now and we've always had feelings for each other but never had a chance to act on them until 2 months ago. When we first started messing around he was very excited and was making plans, just very involved. Then he went away for a week and he came back a different person. He was burned really badly in his previous relationship and I knew that would cause him to be gaurded but it shocked me at what a turn around it was. Anyway so he basically said it would never get serious. We still are involved with each other but he gives the worst mixed signals. Like today he came home for lunch and he had been ignoring my texts so when he got home I ignored him (childish, I know but it's one of the few things he responds to). He is sick and I was giving him a kiss and he told me to leave him alone and that I was hovering. So I went into another room. Before he left though he came to me and gave me a really sweet but sensual kiss and then a kiss on the forehead looked at me a few seconds and then said goodbye and told me he would see me later. What is going on with him? Any insight? Thanks
