Why is France, a member of NATO so unwilling to play its part in war?

France, unlike UK USA and a few other foolhardy nations recognises the futility of conflict when diplomatic means serve a far more effective end to disputes. NAtO need the counterbalance of countries like france to be an effective organisation to promote multilaterally, unlike the USA that strikes unilaterally to the detriment of all.
